Season 2: This Is Our Time - The Journey to Antarctica
In Season 2 of This is Our Time, I went on an expedition trip - as the podcaster in residence - with 90 women, all scientists, to Antarctica. The trip to and from Antarctica has a lot of crazy twists and turns and we almost get stuck in the ice. How did we get there? What was our way out? Listen along to Season 2, beginning July 12th.
EP 5: A Transformative Learning Experience
So what does this all mean? And where does this energy go when you give it out into the world? We finally make it to our destination: Rothera Base Station. The journey is complete. But how do you reflect on this, now that we’re living through a global pandemic? Antarctica has never felt so far away. Put the two of them together, and what you get is a transformational learning experience.
Ep 4: Open Frame & The Blind Vote
The winter was closing in fast and the ship was now in danger of getting stuck in the ice. How do you solve a crisis in the middle of an intense leadership expedition? You turn over the decision to the women, the passengers, to vote. Not just any vote, a blind vote. Yes, or No. Go out into the Southern Ocean, with weather coming in, to complete this journey? Sometimes the most uncomfortable lessons are where you learn the most.
Ep 3: We’ve Got a Problem
Take a walk on Paulet Island. Smell those penguins...climb a mountain after a double hip replacement, see snow for the first time. Antarctica hits everyone differently, but it doesn’t miss a shot. Listen to a symphony of squa birds, and then while you feel lulled into its magic and beauty, be warned. The weather is about to change, and your boat is in danger.
Ep 2: 21 Days on the Southern Ocean
In what could possibly be the longest conference, 21 days at sea on the Southern Ocean, Samantha does her best to make you feel at home here. In a “being-there” moment, you will be brought into the room to consider terms like your “Personal Strategy Map,” your “LSI” type and discover how to cope with all this intensity--through “Peer Coaching.”
Ep 1: Somewhere Around Antarctica
In 2018, Samantha became Podcaster in Residence for a journey to Antarctica. Join her as she boards the ship for 21 days on the Southern Ocean. But there’s something about this story that makes it larger-than-life. Find out why this series really got made. Along the way, meet some whales, get a tour of the ship, and learn what her kids said to her when she said she was leaving home...for a whole month.

Season 2 Trailer
In 2018, Samantha Hodder joined an all-women’s leadership expedition to Antarctica, as Podcaster-in-Residence. The trip plan was to get all the way to the Rothera Research Station, part of the British Antarctic Survey...a place that’s so remote, it’s almost an illusion. But they had a problem. Before they could reach the destination, they almost got stuck in the ice. What now? Do they risk going out into the dangerous open waters of the Southern Ocean with weather coming in? Or, do they give up on our plans, their hopes and dreams, and head for home? But maybe the strangest thing is this was actually a question, on a ship, in the middle of Antarctica. Because, this question became a vote….a blind vote...with the passengers. What happens next, when 80 women take charge of this dangerous decision, aboard a ship in frozen waters, in the most remote place on this planet? Subscribe to this 5-part series. It’s an emotional odyssey to the end of the world. Images by Oli Sansom
